Follow the mostly dry Escalante Creek to where it intersects with the Colorado River, where a few sandy campsites await.

The Spanish colony of New Mexico was founded in 1598. Until 1821, Colorado was part of the extensive Spanish territories governed by the colony. These territories extended far to the north of the New Mexico capital in Santa Fé. In the sixteenth century and later, some Spaniards explored the Great Plains portions of these territories in eastern Colorado.
Both arms of Escalante Creek are normally dry, but once established below the fall it's an easy walk to the shoreline. The trail climbs away from the river below the mouth of Escalante Creek and follows a rising ramp of Shinumo Quartzite downcanyon. Walk the top of this formation around into Seventy-five Mile Creek.
